About the event

Immediately following Passover, the Feast of Unleavened Bread begins on the 15th day of the first month and lasts for seven days.

The instruction is that during these days the Israelites eat bread without yeast, symbolising removal of “leaven” (often interpreted as sin or impurity) from their lives.

It is both a celebration of the liberation (they left Egypt in haste, therefore the bread had no time to rise) and a call to live in holiness and separation. In Christian reflection, it often points to Christ’s burial (sinless One) and the call for believers to live cleanly.
