About the event
Yom Kippur falls on the 10th day of the seventh month, and is a sacred day of atonement, fasting, affliction of the soul, and no work.
In the tabernacle/temple era the high priest would enter the Holy of Holies, offer a blood sacrifice, and make atonement for himself and the nation (Leviticus 16). This day stands for repentance, cleansing, reconciliation with God, and a restored relationship.
In Christian understanding this feast anticipates final judgment, the putting away of sin, and the full reconciliation of God and humanity.
